Frequently Asked Questions

How much does your tutoring cost?

Each session lasts 90 minutes, and costs £22. However, this price reduces to £20 per session when you book a four week block and pay in advance.

Which days are you open?

I tutor during weekday evenings, and on Saturday mornings. I currently have availability remaining on Monday and Tuesday evenings and on Saturday mornings.

Are you open during school holidays?

As I have children of my own, I work around the Falkirk school holidays and therefore will not be open during the April, October and December breaks. I will, however, only close for the first few weeks of the Summer holidays and will reopen two weeks before the new academic school year begins. This helps my pupils to get back in to the swing of education before the schools start back.

There are plenty of private tutors in the Falkirk area who offer one-to-one tuition. Why should I bring my child to you?

This is very true. There are many great private tutors in the local area who offer the service of working from the comfort of your own home. However, these tutors charge roughly £20 - £25 for one hour of tutoring, and I charge £22 for an hour and a half. That equates to just £14.60 per hour, and just £13.30 per hour if booked in a four week block.

My services are cheaper than one-to-one tutors because I teach in small group settings with a maximum of four children. I have tutored in both one-to-one and small group settings, and I have found that children lose motivation and feel more pressured when they are on their own. However, in small group settings they maintain motivation and have more fun whilst they are learning, meaning that more of what they have learned becomes embedded!

Additionally, my class room is filled with a bank of fun, practical resources that are readily available as and when your child requires them. I also offer use of computers that contain educational software that is personalised to your child's needs, and which will consolidate your child's learning.

How will I know that my child is making progress?

I will assess your child's skills in maths, reading and writing once every six months, and will share the results with you in comparison to previous assessments. This way, you will be able to see and keep record of your child's progress. Also, as your child progresses through their learning goals, they will be rewarded through a range of praise techniques, including certificates, stickers and prizes that motivate learning.

Can I arrange a visit to your class room so I can have a look around before I book my child in for sessions?

Absolutely! Feel free to contact me to arrange this.

Where should I park my car when dropping off or collecting my child?

Please feel free to park in the driveway when dropping off or collecting your child.
